Saturday May 27, 2017
Time's up fight fans - IBF world welterweight champion Kell Brook defends his title against Errol Spence Jr at Bramall Lane in Sheffield, England today on SHOWTIME Championship Boxing (live at 5:15 PM ET/2:15 PT).
Time's up NBA fans - the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors will face each other for the third straight time in The Finals.
I work hard to load these podcasts up family! This week's special guests... plural... I have on-location interviews with former two-time world champion and SHOWTIME Boxing analyst Paulie Malignnagi (@PaulMalignaggi) and current IBF world junior middleweight champion Jarrett "Swift" Hurd (@Swift_JHurd). Malignnagi talks Brook-Spence, gives a prediction on Mayweather-McGregor, and discusses whether he feels slighted never getting a shot to face Floyd "Money May" Mayweather. New, undefeated champ Swift responds to being looked at as the weakest link among the 154-pound champions, he names his top choice for a unification fight, weighs in on Brook-Spence and lays out a possible timeline for his move to a new division.
This week's guests include writer Peter Nieves of Round By Round Boxing, Joe Habeeb of Beating The Odds With Beeb and Ringside Reporter, and boxing promoter "Big" Bern Valenzuela out of California.
Nieves (@pnieves90) covers boxing for RBR Boxing, primarily in the Texas area, and spent some time Errol Spence Jr's camp during his preparations for Brook.
Habeeb (@jhabeeb1) breaks down tons of boxing action at his Beating the Odds With Beeb YouTube channel, as well as each Sunday night live on the Ringside Reporter show. Habeeb takes a second look at the controversial Andre Dirrell-Jose Uzcategui ending last week, and then weighs in Brook-Spence and June's Andre Ward-Sergey Kovalev 2. Beeb has the keys!
"Big" Bern Valenzuela joined the show to talk about some Mexican boxing. Valenzuela recaps the disappointing Alvarez-Chavez megafight, and points out a silver lining for Golden Boy Promotions. Bern also talks about some of his fighters' upcoming bouts (he gets a second crack at Philly's Hank Lundy next week with Daniel Evangelista Jr), and he warns the boxing world of the coming of his prospect "El Azteca."
